Nova in the Large Magellanic Cloud 1992

Active Dates: Nov. 13, 1992 – Nov. 13, 1992

Abstract:

William Liller, Vina del Mar, Chile, reports his photographic discovery, using PROBLICOM, of a nova in the Large Magellanic Cloud on November 11.21 UT at photovisual magnitude 10.7 (with Tech Pan film and a red filter). He confirmed its presence on four other photographs. The Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (IAU Circular 5651) reports that Paul Camilleri, Cobram, Victoria, Australia, also observed the nova. The Bureau also reports that spectroscopic confirmation obtained by M. Della Valle at European Southern Observatory indicates a nova at maximum. The position of the nova (1950) is: RA = 05h 19.7m Dec. = -68deg 57m

Justification:

Observations of N LMC 92 include: Nov. 4.34 UT, < 15 photovisual, Liller; 11.21, 10.7 photovisual, Liller; 12.145, 10.5 visual, Liller; and 12.472,10.2 visual, Camilleri. Please use the accompanying AAVSO chart and its sequence and the sequence on the accompanying Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand chart of S Dor to observe 0519-69 N LMC 92 and report your observations to AAVSO Headquarters. When reporting, please indicate which chart and which comparison stars you are using.
