Supernova 2008hy in IC 334
Active Dates: Dec. 8, 2008 – Dec. 8, 2008
Abstract:
The supernova SN 2008hy has been identified as a Type Ia supernova, and is believed to be near maximum light.
Justification:
The object is located approximately 100 arcseconds NNE of the center of IC 334. Independently obtained spectroscopy of the supernova by Dennefeld et al. (2008December 07.95, obtained at Haute Provence Obs.) and Yamanaka et al. (2008 December 07.8, obtained at Higashi-Hiroshima Astron. Obs.) both indicate the supernova is of Type Ia, no more than a week after maximum light.
