Alert Notice 665: R Aqr observations needed urgently

Active Dates: April 19, 2019 – April 19, 2019

Abstract:

Dr. Lee Anne Willson urgently requests observations of the symbiotic Mira R Aqr. The current minimum is low [V~11.7], indicating a possible eclipse/interaction event. Dr. Margarita Karovska also requests BVRI photometry, visual observations, and spectroscopy of R Aqr through at least the end of the observing season.

Justification:

To study the possible eclipse/interaction event occurring every 44 years, centered around 2022 to 2024, lasting about 6 years, and to monitor depressed R and I bands indicating the Mira being blocked by an opaque object.
