Proposal | Responding to BSM Section request for SS Cyg campaign - Alert Notice 720. I have been observing SS Cyg since May using Slooh Canary telescopes, but there are only few missions on few hours and would like to complement those with AAVSO telescopes. |
Target | RA (H.HH) | Dec (D.DD) | Magnitude | Telescope | Observation Frequency | Expiration Date | Proprietary Term |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SS Cyg | 21.711886 | 43.58608 | 12.4–7.7 | BSM_NH2 | 1 | March 15, 2021 | No |

From Arne:
Note that BSM_NH2 does not currently have an Rc filter in its filter wheel. The researchers are going to overlay multiple observers data to get the orbital light curve, so using an SR filter rather than a true Rc filter may be problematic. BSM_NM and BSM_TX have true Rc filters, and I hope to put an Rc filter back into BSM_NH2 in the next few days. Until then, I'd recommend just doing V from BSM_NH2.

It would have been very helpful if the requester provided detail about filters, cadence, etc, rather than requiring the plan creator to look up the campaign and follow the requirements?! I know this sounds trivial but we should use the same protocol for all proposal requests.

Done and committed to NH2, Hamren and NM. Jari needs an observer code for distribution of images. Not sure he is an aavso member?

Set up for 5 hourly images per night, in V and R.

Ken, as a rookie with AAVSONET, I didn’t understand to place the information on the form as I thought that there would be another form after submitting the first one. Thank you for assistance.

Previously, I have been sending my observations by uploading my Slooh FITS file to VPHOT. The header in the files have missed the telescope name, object name, RA, Dec, so I have used Quick Upload by filling the required information. After the AAVSO report has been created, I have changed the color filters (R=>TR, V=>TG and B=>TB) and added the Airmasses from the Swarthmore site based on the observation time.
I have noted the BSM_NH2 Rc filter situation and I have some further questions: Are the images coming to VPHOT or to the FTP server and can I expect notifications to email or here?

I was contacted by Brian Ramey (RBCA) as he also applied for the same BSM use, but got rejected. Every other day I will forward the data to him.

Jari:
I'm splitting the SS Cyg data from different scopes to the other two requestors.

OK, I was wondering, if the hiatus was connected to the VPHOT problems.
