Proposal

Background: SS Cyg has been behaving atypically in the optical over the past several months. Alert 720 has requested that Multiple V and Rc CCD and PEP observations per night are requested beginning now.

Proposal: Use BSM to provide VBIR photometric data in support of Alert #720 SS CYG

Plan: Take photometric measurements in the VBIR bands each night for the duration of Alert #720 "Photometry Requested for SS Cyg".

1. View time for SS CYG (assuming New Mexico location) is dark until approx. 10:00 UTC (4 am local time) when target approaches ALT of 30 degs in the NW
2. Depending on availability of scope time, take minimum of 5, 60 second exposures for each filter, for each measurement series. It is desired to take at least 1 measurement series per 24 hour period, more if possible.
3. Image files will be processed in Vphot including Stacking(Median), photometry and aavso report generation for submittal to the aavso variable star international database.

Note: I have started providing SS CYG photometry data this week to the aavso database using itelescope T5 until my funds run out. This will be my first time using APASS, so my plan will need to include some training to become familiar with APASS. I am familiar with writing scripts for control of the itelescopes and have image files automatically ftp'd to my vphot account.

SS Cyg is the subject of a recently approved proposal by Jari Backman. We suggest collaboration in this scenario.
