Proposal #161

VY Aqr is undergoing a rare superoutburst and is the subject of an AAVSO observing campaign in support of professional radio and optical observations. It is rather late in the season, but it would be useful to collect time-series as long as possible to study the development of superhumps. The BSMs in New Mexico, Hawaii or Australia would be ideal for this target due to their southern latitude, and if possible observations from multiple sites would give excellent coverage for monitoring superhump period changes. Time series in one filter, V preferably, would be best for time series analysis, but nightly BVRI observations would also be beneficial (APASS may already provide this). The target is currently a V ~ 9.5 but should start to fade in the next few days, but will likely have several echo outbursts following the initial fading event.
