Proposal Objective This proposal is for BVRI photometric observations using the AAVSOnet Bright-Star telescope for the 2012-2013 of delta Orionis project.
Program star Delta Orionis (Mintaka) is a 2.4 V magnitude triple star systems that eclipses every 5.7 days. While delta Orionis is the primary star of interest, epsilon Orionis is also of interest.
Background Dr. Anthony MOFFAT (Emeritus professor University of Montreal) has initiated a Campaign and has requested BVRI photometry. This request is for photometry to begin Early December 2012 through mid-January 2013. The Campaign is designed to support X-Ray measurements by the CHANDRA X-ray Observatory and the MOST space satellite. The satellite observations begin 17 December 2012 to 07 January 2013. These observations will allow mapping of the orbital eclipses with an extremely broad 2000 Angstrom band pass at high-precision as well as a look at the orbital variability of the X-ray spectrum. This will provide a unique understanding of where the different X-ray lines are formed. Further information about the component stars will be obtained with both spectroscopy obtained with amateur spectroscopy from around the world as well as multi-color photometry. These observations will probe the spectral components and allow us to disentangle the component spectra.
Dr. Noel Richardson richardson@ASTRO.UMontreal.CA is coordinating the data.
Requirements BVRI observation sessions should be made twice a week until 16 December 2012 through 08 January 2012. During that time multiple nightly observation sessions should be made at the convenience of the telescope schedule. During each session 3 corrected (flat and dark corrected) images in each band (BVRI) with exposures so as to produce acceptable SNR should be created. This will mean 12 images per session (3 images in each band).
The following stars should all be included in the images.
