Proposal

Use REFITT recommendations to pick high value targets.
REFITT is the Recommender Engine for Intelligent Transient Tracking
https://refitt.physics.purdue.edu/
Most of the alerts coming through are ZTF, so are meant for larger scopes that can go down to mag 18.
I propose to monitor the alerts and periodically send a target to MPO61, our currently operational big scope.
The alerts are for SG and SR, both available on MPO61.
Images would be requested for a couple nights with the plan cancelled when good imaging comes in.
Only one target at a time.
Will request several 10min images to stack to decent SNR.
Data to be submitted to AID and to REFITT.
If this works out I will try to get one of the MPO61 operators interested so they could take over the proposal.
Current target of interest is listed below

Targets

Sebastian points out:
This is the confirmed supernova SN 2022pgf in NGC 5894.
https://www.wis-tns.org/object/2022pgf
And it is not in VSX. I can add it if we are going to get data eventually.
I don't question the project as a whole, but I would like to have the scientific justification for the individual objects written in the proposal.
Why is ZTF22aauurbv special?

The proposal is to explore using REFITT recommendations to chase transient phenomena.
The advertising says it is AI driven, looking for light curves that need data.
In the case of this target the light curve is just starting its decline. 12 days ago it was 18.5. Peaked a couple days ago at 15.5.

The second part of the proposal will be to try responding to VOEvents that REFITT will soon be issuing for the alerts.

Arne also expressed the concern:
My main concern is that George is asking for one target at a time, gets
~one hour of data, then requests the next target. This would seem to
impact Ken the most, since he might have to create a new plan almost every
day (if I read the proposal correctly). It would also impact Sebastian,
since he would have to assign an AUID almost daily as well. Perhaps you
can ask George for more clarification and see if we can reduce the impact
on volunteers as much as possible.

I will handle the plan creation and deployment. Ken need not be involved with this project

As noted above, George will prepare this plan as needed.

I'm getting the alerts when you post the mesages.

(4848) George Silvis — Aug. 12, 2022, 3:43 p.m.

And final test

Dirk,
Have you been receiving a steady stream of emails from this website?
