Proposal

High Mass X-Ray Binary (HMXB) RX J0520.5-6932 has not been recently observed. I would like to begin observing as soon as possible and ending June 1, 2023. Please schedule imaging 2-3 times a week with the following parameters:

Johnson-Cousins VBRI photometry: V band 60 seconds; B band 60 seconds; R band 60 seconds; I band 60 seconds. Magnitude range 13-15 in all bands.
Thank you.

Dave, can you provide some justification for this project? Is it in support of some campaign?

Dirk,

I'm new to AAVSOnet. My goal is to learn how to use this capability for future observations. Eventually, I would like to learn spectroscopy since I know very little about that topic. I'm the section co-lead for the High Energy Network and want to focus on high energy objects, hence the HMXBs. Also, these objects have known spectra, so I can compare my results with what is known as a reference point.

As you can see, I've submitted other proposals but have yet to get any photometry that I can use. I'm hoping this proposal is successful.
Thanks.
Dave

Dave: As I suspect you know, this target is faint enough that it is best done with a large scope (FSM). It is also far south, so that means OC61. I will put it there and image every clear night. I will also run through July. I don't think your short total duration will really give you enough info? It will also set soon?

Ken
