Proposal #42

I would like to use AAVSOnet to monitor the Dwarf Nova CSS 121005:212625+201948 (VSX: http://www.aavso.org/vsx/index.php?view=detail.top&oid=286287) for the duration of the next observing season, i.e. from now to, say, 2015 January.

CRTS shows frequent outbursts of this system (http://nesssi.cacr.caltech.edu/catalina/20121005/1210051211094121504p.html) and it has been suggested it might be a new ER UMa system – such systems are relatively uncommon. I have followed the star for the last 2 years with my own telescope in the UK (CV), and with the Bradford Robotic Telescope (V). These data are now in the AAVSO International Database. However, there are many data gaps. Hence this year I intend to organise a campaign to include several AAVSO and BAA members to monitor the star intensively with the aim of getting as good a coverage as possible of its outbursts. This would then allow us to trigger timeseries photometry once an outburst is detected to look for superhumps (t/series to be conducted by private individuals). Moreover, snap-shot photometry would help us to understand the frequency and duration of outbursts.

Thus this project is time-bound, from as soon as the field is accessible until about 2015 Jan. By that time we should have sufficient data to identify the type of star. Publication of results would then follow.

At a minimum I would like V observations. If time permits, then also R and possibly B – I will be guided by Arne Henden on this matter.
