Proposal

There are approximately 36 High Mass X-Ray Binary (HMXB) objects in the VSX database. Most have no observations. This proposal will observe 4 of these located in mid-to-high northern latitudes. These are:
V0615 Cas
IGR J00370+6122
V1008 Cep
V2762 Cyg
For each object, I would like a 60 second exposure in BVRI or BVR depending on the telescopes selected. One observation per week in each band for each HXMB should be adequate. Please start as soon as possible and extend to March 1, 2024.
Thank you,
Dave Hinzel (HDHA)

Some comments from the TAC:

1) V615 Cas has a 12arcsec companion to the south about 3mags fainter that will contaminate the photometry; how much depends on the wavelength and the color contrast.
V2762 Cyg has an equal-magnitude companion 12arcsec to the east that will definitely contaminate the photometry.

2) There are actually 103 HMXBs in VSX not 36. Search for "%HMXB%" and including Suspects in the VSX special search.

3) See https://www.aavso.org/aavso-alert-notice-377 for a still-active campaign on HMXBs.

Dave, would you like to modify your target list?

Thanks Dirk,
Let me take another look and I will substitute some other objects. Do I have to submit another proposal or modify this one?

You can just modify this one.

(3663) Dirk Terrell — Oct. 18, 2023, 7:16 p.m.

I'll go ahead and approve this one, subject to picking some new targets.

(19034) Dave Hinzel — Oct. 18, 2023, 8:39 p.m.

OK. Lets substitute V0615 Cas (02:40:31.67, +61:13:45.6) and V0662 Cas (01:18:02.70, +65:17:29.8) for V615 Cas and V2762 Cyg. Everything else remains the same. Thanks Dirk.

(19034) Dave Hinzel — Oct. 18, 2023, 8:42 p.m.

Forgot the mags:
V0615 Cas is 11.1-10.4V and V0662 Cas is 11.09-10.97V.

Dave:
Please modify the target list above. Add and remove as appropriate. Saves me the effort?

(19034) Dave Hinzel — Oct. 23, 2023, 6:46 p.m.

Ken,
It seems that I made a mistake with V0615 Cas. Let me look all of this over again. How do I modify the target list? The dropdown menu from the original proposal form doesn't appear. Should I just show the modifications here in the comment section?
Dave

(3663) Dirk Terrell — Oct. 23, 2023, 7:40 p.m.

Yes, you can just put it in the comments.

(19034) Dave Hinzel — Oct. 24, 2023, 12:35 p.m.

Here is the target update.

CI Cam: 04:19:42.14, +55:59:57.7: Mag 11.9-9.5V.

V0662 Cas: 01:18:02.70, +65:17:29.8: Mag 11.09-10.97V.

IGR J00370+6122: 00:37:09.64, +61:21:36.5: Mag 9.67-9.61V.

V1008 Cep: 22:07:56.24, +54:31:06.4: Mag 9.9-9.7V.

For each object, I would like a 60 second exposure in BVRI or BVR depending on the telescopes selected. One observation per week in each band for each HXMB should be adequate. Please start as soon as possible and extend to March 1, 2024. Thanks.
