| Proposal | In support of AAVSO Alert Notice 848, I would like to obtain readings on three successive nights, if sky cooperates: February 17; Quoting from the alert, such observations are requested once per night, and I do not propose a certain time of night, just one observation per night: "Beginning immediately, please observe SDSS J080449.49+161624.8 in V one to a few times per night from now through February 16, then nightly through March 1". I recently took the PHOTOMETRY USING VPHOT course and I am looking to get experience with VSX and at the same time contribute to ongoing and forthcoming Alerts. |

In support of my proposal I offer a finder chart which shows a goodly number of comps for the target, within a 30' diameter.

A followup alert has been issued.
Text from Alert 850, shown below, is a followup on Alert 848 which I referenced in my original proposal. It provides the exact time the HST is scheduled to begin observations of the target. The time slot corresponds to rather early in the evening (EST), or in late afternoon to twilight hours (PST) in North America. But since my request was for any time of the night on Feb 17, 18, and 19, this will not be a problem for attempting the 3 post-HST observations during night-time hours.
Unless I am mistaken, the target crosses the meridian as follows (PST, sorry if I stay in my timezone to keep from being confused):
2-17: 22H 26M
2-18: 22H 22M
2-19: 22H 18MI just mention this because the target is very faint and we'll need all the help we can get in terms of avoiding excessive extinction.
Oh yes, I notice that M67 is transiting less than an hour later than the target transits. You know it would be really cool to snap a shot or two of M67 for its excellent set of calibration stars. Just a thought. :-)

"Further to AAVSO Alert Notices 838 and 848, Dr. Anna Pala (European Space Agency, ESAC, Spain) informs us that observations of the cataclysmic variable SDSS J080449.49+161624.8 (Cnc) have been scheduled with the Hubble Space Telescope for:2024 February 16 23:31:31 - February 17 02:02:55 UT
Nightly V snapshots are requested from now through March 2. V observations will be critical in the few days before the HST date; a positive V observation is required 24 hours before the HST observations. Dr Pala writes: "Any data you can collect on the next nights, especially the night of the 15th and early on the 16th, will be extremely useful for the HST team to finally approve the observations of this target."

Thanks for submitting to TM061. I received and processed images in support of Alert 850, but the S/N of the target was very low so I did not submit my observations. At the end of February the alert was finished so this request (my first to AAVSOnet) can be archived. There were some additional observations sent to my account this month, which I appreciate. It was nice to at least get some pixels for this target! But S/N is poor. I will look at new alerts with a view to submitting new requests to AAVSOnet. Thanks!
