Proposal | Hello, I am interested in observing HDE 226868 for a school astronomy project. Every 5.6 days, it orbits behind Cygnus X1, a black hole. My end goal is to measure the mass of the black hole using the varying brightness. I would like 2-3 hours of 15-20 minute photos a night for 3-5 orbits(15-30 days). My preferred filters are B and V. I am inexperienced with photometry so if something seems unreasonable please inform me. Thank you for considering this proposal and I hope to hear from you soon. Kind Regards, |

In the VSX the star is referred to as V1357 Cyg, just in case you cant find HDE 226868

The TAC suggests 3x BV every couple of hours rather than a time series.

That works for me.

How long can I expect until I get some photos, I need data to start formulating my project. is there an approximate date I can expect some photos to be sent to my VPhot account.
