Abstract

(Abstract only) The group Variable Stars South is based on the concept of projects in different fields of variable star astronomy which are expected to provide useful information about a star or stars on a time scale of a year to a decade—there are a few exceptions. This poster covers projects and results for binary stars, Cepheids, Mira stars, and some others, and also the techniques in use—visual observing, CCD and DSLR photometry, and some spectroscopy. We also look at some of the problems associated with a lack of adequate longitude coverage in a very watery hemisphere!
