Abstract

(Abstract only) During my life as an amateur astronomer I have built three permanent observatories (the first in 1976), each improving on the previous one. When my present one got in service at the beginning of 2014, I had long ago decided that it would be used for science. And this is what I have done, specifically photometry almost every clear night from dusk to dawn. During the five years since first light, I have accumulated more than 75,000 photos, each one providing photometric data for the AAVSO and/or CBA. There is room for two instruments, each one resting on a 20-foot concrete pillar. Recently an unexpected donation of equipment allowed me to add spectroscopy to my favorite hobby. While my talk will be essentially about my work in photometry, I will show some preliminary results with spectroscopy.
