Abstract

(Abstract only) An exploration of the importance of religion and art in sowing the seeds of success of the U.S. space program in the 1940s–1950s, and the roles of Chesley Bonestell, Willy Ley, and Werner von Braun in inspiring a technological and scientific faith that awoke a deep-seated belief in a sense of divine destiny to conquer the “final frontier.”
