Abstract

(Abstract only) A summary of the history and procedures of the AAVSO Solar Section is provided. Statistical analysis shows that although there has been no clear change in the reporting behavior over the last 90 years, there is a statistically significant shift during times of extrema in the sunspot cycle (maxima and minima). Implications for the relative sunspot number are discussed.
