Rare outburst of 1227+14 AL Comae Berenices

Active Dates: April 5, 1995 – April 5, 1995

Abstract:

David York, Abiquiu, NM, has reported the brightening of AL Com, and Tom Cragg, Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia, has confirmed the outburst. Data from the AAVSO International Database suggests that AL Com has had two outbursts previously, in April 1974 and March 1975. Observers are urged to monitor the star for superhumps as this will help determine if AL Com is an SU UMa-type cataclysmic variable.

Justification:

The observation of AL Com is important to confirm superhump periods which can help classify if it is an SU UMa-type cataclysmic variable.
