Rare bright outburst of 1137+72 DO Draconis (= YY Draconis)
Active Dates: Oct. 16, 1996 – Oct. 21, 1996
Abstract:
The dwarf nova cataclysmic variable DO Dra has gone into a bright outburst. Visual magnitude was observed at 12.7 on Oct 16.784 UT. This star has been known for its bright outbursts in the past, reaching magnitudes up to 10.1 and 9.7 in 1988 and 1990, respectively. The current outburst is being closely monitored, and CCD observations are encouraged.
Justification:
The infrequency of bright outbursts in DO Draconis suggests it might possibly be an SU UMa type dwarf nova. Monitoring this outburst can help in the search for small-amplitude oscillations or superhumps and ascertain the shape of the light curve.
