Rare outburst of 1858+42 V493 Lyrae AND Second set of observations scheduled in international observing campaign on 1913+49 AM Herculis
Abstract:
We have been informed by G. Hanson of the rare outburst of V493 Lyrae. Recent observations have shown that outbursts last approximately 10-16 days. The last recorded outburst was in November 1995. Additionally, the second set of observations for the international observing campaign on AM Herculis have been scheduled with the Hubble Space Telescope for January 3 - 6, 1997. AM Her should be monitored closely from now until the end of January.
Justification:
Monitor V493 Lyrae closely throughout its outburst and afterwards, and report observations to AAVSO Headquarters. For AM Herculis, it's crucial to monitor it closely and report any changes, especially if it goes into its low state, to alert the astronomers involved in the international campaign.
