1243-02 Supernova 1997X in NGC 4691

Active Dates: Feb. 1, 1997 – Feb. 4, 1997

Abstract:

Masakatsu Aoki discovered a supernova at CCD magnitude 13.6 on nine unfiltered CCD frames taken February 1.76 UT with a 0.43-m f/6 reflector. The position of the supernova was confirmed spectroscopically as a Type Ic supernova shortly after maximum. Various observatories confirmed the supernova location and classification.

Justification:

To observe and confirm the properties of the supernova 1997X in NGC 4691, and to provide precise photometry and spectroscopy data for further research.
