Abstract:

In AAVSO Alert Notice 264, an observation of Nova Aquilae 1999 Number 2 (V1494 Aql) at visual magnitude 5.6 made on Dec 1.958 UT was reported. This observation was an independent discovery by Gary Nowak using 7 x 35 binoculars. Spectroscopic confirmation was reported by M. Fujii and K. Ayani. Additional observations were also reported to AAVSO.

Justification:

Discovery and further studies of the nova V1494 Aql.
