2059+48 Nova Cygni 2001 No. 2 AND 2003+17 WZ Sagittae superoutburst continues - recovering from dramatic dip [V2275 Cyg]

Active Dates: Aug. 18, 2001 – Aug. 21, 2001

Abstract:

This campaign covers observations of two celestially-interesting events: the nova Nova Cygni 2001 No. 2 discovered independently by Akihiko Tago and K. Hatayama, and the ongoing superoutburst of WZ Sagittae, a dwarf nova cataclysmic variable.

Justification:

Nova Cygni 2001 No. 2 is a newly discovered nova requiring follow-up observations to study its development. WZ Sagittae's superoutburst, characterized by dramatic variations in brightness, presents a rare opportunity to study the evolution of superhumps and disk structure in cataclysmic variables.
