Extending Request to Observe HMXBs in Support of Radial Velocity Observations

Active Dates: Aug. 13, 2007 – Sept. 30, 2007

Abstract:

Dr. Gordon Sarty from the University of Saskatchewan has requested assistance from AAVSO observers in obtaining IVBR photometry for four High Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) to support his spectroscopic observations with the DAO 1.85-m Plaskett telescope. The goal is to determine the orbital periods of the HMXBs and understand variations due to mass transfer, pulsations, and other effects.

Justification:

The goal is to determine the orbital periods of the HMXBs. Optical photometry will also reveal other periods and variations due to mass transfer, pulsations, and other effects. The availability of photometry will be very valuable for interpreting the spectroscopic data.
