Rare Outburst of V358 Lyr
Active Dates: Nov. 22, 2008 – Nov. 22, 2008
Abstract:
A rare outburst of V358 Lyr was discovered by Jeremy Shears and Gary Poyner from a Bradford Robotic Telescope image and confirmed by Shawn Dvorak. The discovery magnitude was CV=16.11 +/- 0.04, and the discovery date was November 22, 2008. This event is notable as the only known outburst since 1965.
Justification:
V358 Lyr is a likely WZ Sge variable with the only known outburst being in 1965. Previous AAVSO reports and observations have shown no other outbursts over the past decade, making this a rare event worthy of observation.
