Nova Sct 2009 (V496 Sct)

Active Dates: Nov. 8, 2009 – Nov. 10, 2009

Abstract:

A nova in Scutum, referred to as V496 Sct or N Sct 2009, was discovered on November 8, 2009. The nova exhibited an unfiltered CCD magnitude of 8.8 and showed several emission lines with P Cygni profiles, including the H-alpha and H-beta lines. It has been confirmed to be a Fe II-type nova.

Justification:

Nova Sct 2009 presents a unique opportunity to study a nova event with clear Fe II-type characteristics and several emission lines with P Cygni profiles, providing valuable data for the understanding of nova mechanisms.
