Monitoring of RU Peg requested for Swift observations
Active Dates: June 6, 2012 – March 31, 2013
Abstract:
Dr. Koji Mukai (USRA/NASA Goddard Space Flight Center) has requested AAVSO observers' assistance in monitoring the SS Cyg-type dwarf nova RU Peg in support of target-of-opportunity observations with the NASA Swift satellite during an outburst. Observations are targeted during the rise to outburst and during late decline from outburst.
Justification:
Observations of RU Peg during outburst phases will help determine if this dwarf nova exhibits the same hard X-ray enhancements as observed in SS Cyg, potentially related to the mass of the accreting white dwarf. The success of the campaign depends on prompt notifications of activity in RU Peg.
