Monitoring HD 148703 during upcoming eclipses

Active Dates: June 8, 2017 – June 20, 2017

Abstract:

Monitoring the very bright and very unusual eclipsing binary HD 148703 (HR 6143, N Sco) during its infrequent primary and secondary eclipses scheduled for 2017 June 11 and June 14, respectively. Due to its high brightness and unusual orbital characteristics (~223 days period and ~3.5 days between eclipses), observations are crucial for determining orbital and stellar parameters.

Justification:

To test massive-stars stellar evolution models by comparing observations (light curve + radial velocities) with theoretical models, utilizing data taken during times of eclipses and time between eclipses.
