VV Cep eclipse monitoring

Active Dates: June 1, 2017 – Nov. 18, 2019

Abstract:

The AAVSO is requesting monitoring of the eclipse of the very bright Algol-type eclipsing binary variable VV Cep, predicted to have begun in June 2017 and to conclude in November 2019. The campaign involves multicolor photometry (V and Rc filters preferred) and visual observations.

Justification:

Monitoring VV Cep is important because it is one of the longest-period eclipsing binaries known, with mass transfer occurring from a M supergiant to a Be star. The timing and length of VV Cep eclipses has varied in the past, providing valuable data.
