Campaign Monitoring of the Helium double peak emission at 6678 Å in gamma Cas

Active Dates: June 17, 2020 – Dec. 31, 2024

Abstract:

This campaign monitors the HeI 6678 Å emission of the star gamma Cas, known for its double-peaked emissions. The primary goal is to gather high-resolution spectra to study short-term emission events and their durations, which contribute to understanding how Be stars lose their mass and build their disks.

Justification:

The HeI 6678 emission in gamma Cas exhibits V/R variations that highlight localized differences in CS temperature and density. This information is crucial to comprehend the mechanisms of mass loss and disk formation in Be stars. High-resolution, high S/N spectra are required to measure these weak emissions reliably.
