Monitoring requested for seven intermediate polars

Active Dates: Aug. 23, 2021 – Aug. 23, 2022

Abstract:

Monitoring seven intermediate polar cataclysmic variables to obtain better coverage over sufficient timescales. Nightly coverage will help identify low states (drastic decrease in optical flux) and trigger X-ray observations to better understand white dwarf properties.

Justification:

Monitor systems for low states to trigger X-ray observations with Chandra and XMM-Newton. Analyze temporal signatures to understand dominant accretion mechanisms causing magnitude dips.
