RU Lup monitoring needed for HST observations

Active Dates: Aug. 1, 2022 – Aug. 21, 2022

Abstract:

Monitoring the classical T Tau star RU Lup in support of observations with HST scheduled for August 10-20, 2022. The HST will monitor the pre-main sequence star RU Lup, obtaining 12 sets of ultra-violet spectra over three stellar rotations during this period. Ground-based observations are critical for context as RU Lup will not be observed simultaneously with TESS or XMM.

Justification:

RU Lup is a bright, highly active classical T Tauri star with significant variability. Ground-based photometry is needed to complement HST observations and provide long-term context of the system's brightness and behavior.
