Photometry of sigma Gem requested in support of TESS and CHARA observations

Active Dates: Oct. 18, 2023 – Dec. 15, 2023

Abstract:

Shashank Dholakia requests AAVSO observers' assistance in monitoring the bright RS CVn-type variable sigma Gem in support of satellite-based (TESS) and ground-based observations (CHARA interferometric array). This campaign aims to test the ability of photometry to map the surfaces of stars, which can be subject to significant uncharacterized limitations.

Justification:

Sigma Gem will be observed with precision differential photometry by TESS. This opportunity will test the ability of photometry to map the surfaces of stars, which can be subject to significant uncharacterized limitations. Interferometric spot maps from CHARA will be cross compared with those from precision photometry. Multicolor photometry can potentially map stars more accurately than single-color photometry.
